How to Convert PDF to Text
Choose one PDF, select Extract Text, then review the result. Copy the extracted text or download it as a TXT file.
Extract Text from a PDF
This tool reads machine-readable text already stored in the PDF. It reconstructs ordinary lines and spacing as readable plain text without changing the source document.
Download a PDF as TXT
Download the normalized result as a UTF-8 TXT file. The filename uses the original PDF name with -text.txt added to its sanitized stem.
Text Layers vs Scanned PDFs
PDF to Text is not OCR. It cannot recognize words that exist only as pixels in an image. A scanned-looking PDF with an existing invisible text layer can still contain extractable text.
Extract Text from Multi-page PDFs
All pages are processed in order. If some pages have no extractable text, the result identifies those pages while keeping text found elsewhere.
Unicode and Language Support
Unicode returned by PDF.js is preserved, including Latin, Arabic data, Hebrew, Greek, Cyrillic, CJK, symbols, and emoji when the PDF contains usable character mappings. Missing or unusual mappings can affect characters and reading order.
Copy Extracted PDF Text
Use Copy Text to copy the exact normalized plain-text result. If clipboard access is unavailable, the read-only result remains selectable for manual copying.
Plain-text Layout Limitations
PDFs do not always store content in logical reading order. Complex columns, tables, rotated labels, and custom encodings may not reproduce their original visual layout exactly.
Keep the Original PDF Unchanged
Extraction reads the PDF text layer and creates a separate TXT result. It does not edit, rewrite, or overwrite the original PDF.
Extract PDF Text Privately in Your Browser
Validation, extraction, reconstruction, copying, and TXT creation happen locally. Your PDF and extracted text are not uploaded to Savezly or an external processing service.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the PDF to Text tool free?
Yes. You can extract embedded PDF text, copy it, and download a TXT file without signup.
Is my PDF or extracted text uploaded?
No. Your PDF and extracted text remain in your browser during processing.
Can I copy the extracted text?
Yes. Select Copy Text, or manually select the read-only result if clipboard access is unavailable.
Can I download the result as a TXT file?
Yes. The result downloads as a UTF-8 TXT file with deterministic line endings.
Does it work with scanned or image-only PDFs?
It does not perform OCR, so it cannot recognize text that exists only inside an image. It can extract an existing invisible text layer when the PDF already contains one.
Does it support Arabic and other languages?
It preserves Unicode returned by the PDF text layer when usable character mappings exist. Arabic and other right-to-left output can depend on how the source PDF encodes and orders its text.
Does it preserve the exact PDF layout and tables?
No. The output is readable plain text, not a lossless layout or table conversion. Complex columns and tables may be reconstructed row by row.
Can it extract text from every page?
Yes. It processes all pages up to the 100-page limit and identifies pages without extractable text.
Does extraction modify my original PDF?
No. The source PDF is read locally and remains unchanged.
Why was no selectable text found in my PDF?
The PDF may be scanned, image-only, blank, or missing a usable text mapping. This tool does not run OCR.
