How to Watermark a PDF

Choose one PDF, enter your watermark text, adjust its appearance and placement, then select Add Watermark and download the validated result.

Add a Text Watermark to a PDF

Add a single-line text watermark such as DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, or DO NOT COPY. The text must use characters supported by the standard Helvetica WinAnsi encoding.

Choose a Watermark Position

Choose one of nine fixed positions from Top Left through Center to Bottom Right. Center is selected by default.

Use Horizontal, Diagonal, or Vertical Watermarks

Choose diagonal up, horizontal, diagonal down, or vertical. Placement accounts for the visible page boundary and standard PDF page rotation.

Adjust Watermark Opacity

Set opacity from 10% to 100%. The 30% default keeps the watermark visible while reducing obstruction of existing content.

Choose Watermark Size and Color

Choose Small, Medium, or Large and select Gray, Black, or Red. Size is calculated independently for each visible page and reduced when needed to avoid clipping.

Watermark All Pages or the First Page

Apply the watermark to every page or only the first page. The output keeps the original page count and order.

Preserve PDF Page Quality

The watermark is added as text without intentionally rasterizing, resizing, or reflowing existing pages. Advanced PDF features are not universally guaranteed after rewriting.

Watermark PDFs Privately in Your Browser

Input validation, preview, watermarking, and output validation happen locally. Your PDF and watermark text are not uploaded to Savezly or an external processing service.

Download and Rename Your Watermarked PDF

The validated download uses the original filename with -watermarked.pdf added to its sanitized stem. Input is limited to 25 MiB and 100 pages; generated output is limited to 100 MiB.
