How to Rotate an Image

  1. Choose one JPG, PNG, or static WebP image.
  2. Rotate or flip the preview using the transformation controls.
  3. Select Generate Image, then download the validated result.

Rotate Left or Right

Rotate the current visual image 90 degrees counterclockwise or clockwise. Each quarter turn swaps the output width and height.

Rotate an Image 180 Degrees

Turn the current image upside down with one control. A 180-degree rotation keeps the original output dimensions.

Flip Images Horizontally

Flip Horizontal mirrors the current displayed image from left to right. Applying the same flip twice returns to the previous visual state.

Flip Images Vertically

Flip Vertical mirrors the current displayed image from top to bottom. Rotations and flips are combined in the order you apply them.

Rotate JPG, PNG, and WebP Images

JPG/JPEG, PNG, and static WebP inputs remain in their original format. Animated WebP is rejected because animation cannot be preserved by this tool.

Image Dimensions After Rotation

Quarter turns swap width and height. A 180-degree rotation and individual horizontal or vertical flips retain the orientation-normalized source dimensions.

Image Quality and Transparency

PNG uses native lossless Canvas encoding and retains decoded alpha. JPEG and WebP require re-encoding at quality 0.90, so compression, RGB values, and file size may change. WebP retains decoded alpha where supported.

Metadata and Color Profiles

Metadata, EXIF, GPS data, thumbnails, comments, ICC profiles, and HDR or wide-gamut information are not intentionally preserved and may be removed, normalized, or changed. This is not a forensic metadata-removal tool.

Private Browser-Based Processing

Validation, decoding, previewing, transformation, encoding, and result verification run locally in your browser without uploading the image or using a remote transformation service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Rotate Image free?

Yes. Rotate Image is free and does not require an account.

Which image formats are supported?

JPG/JPEG, PNG, and static WebP images are supported.

Can I rotate an image 90 degrees?

Yes. Use Rotate Left or Rotate Right to turn the current visual image by 90 degrees.

Can I rotate an image 180 degrees?

Yes. The Rotate 180° control turns the image upside down while retaining its dimensions.

Can I flip an image horizontally?

Yes. Flip Horizontal mirrors the current displayed image from left to right.

Can I flip an image vertically?

Yes. Flip Vertical mirrors the current displayed image from top to bottom.

Does rotating reduce image quality?

PNG output is lossless, while JPG and WebP must be re-encoded, so their compression and file size can change.

Is PNG or WebP transparency preserved?

Yes. Browser-decoded alpha is retained for PNG and static WebP output without adding a white background.

Is my image uploaded?

No. Image processing and result verification run locally in your browser.

Is image metadata preserved?

Not necessarily. Re-encoding may remove, normalize, or change metadata and color-profile information.
